조선시대의 전통부채 단선을 응용한 의상디자인 연구

Abstract

In today‘s fashion, changes into something new have been attempted continuously under the accelerated current of fashion. Besides, people have made efforts to express original culture of each country as modern style. Accordingly, constant studies and trials for reinterpreting traditional image newly are needed from the viewpoints of modernization of tradition. For the purpose of recreating formative motives using traditional culture in modern style, thus, this study intended to apply traditional patterns of a round fan to fashion design by reinterpreting them using shape of traditional fans out of various materials with Korean traditional beauty. The traditional fans are both the living necessaries and a means to utilize the ornamental beauty. To express it, this researcher examined its theoretical background and made the total of 8 silk suits by introducing a three-dimensional effect of the ribs of a fan and its traditional patterns to dress using techniques such as tuck, applique, patchwork, and so on. The following conclusions were derived from this study: First, out of formative elements of a round fan, the harmony among a gentle curve, drastic one and a straight line is suitable to be used as motives of change in simple bottom sweep and fly, princess lines of women's dress. Second, from a fan with coarse and practical image produced by the material, "paper", dignified female beauty could be expressed using materials with elegant and prestigious feeling such as hand-woven silk, silk chiffon, crystal organza, Shantung silk, and satin. Third, coloring of black in decor paper and various colors of dyed paper based on white which is the color of paper of a round fan was fit for fashion design. Techniques including patchwork and applique are suitable to restructure the lines from the shape of a round fan under the motive of various animals and plants and apply them to modern dress. Fourth, a tuck technique was fit for expressing the line of the ribs of a fan spreading upward and downward in paper or three-dimensional beauty of the line spreading outward from the center dynamically. A quilt technique using sponge was a suitable trial in expressing curves like embossing represented by the ribs between two sheets of paper and the feeling of the even ribs. Based on these conclusions, if analysis is conducted on the formative characteristics of a traditional round fan which is both the living necessaries and a decoration sublimated into pleasure and arts of our people based on modern senses, traditional beauty can express refined design suitable to modern senses. For example, as shown in this study, if the exterior line according to the shape of the ribs is restructured in accordance with modern fashion design, if a drastic line of straight lines and a gentle line of curves appearing in the ribs of a round fan are restructured and designed in modern style, and if various techniques are developed to make a three-dimensional effect of the surface where the ribs jutting beyond paper according to modern design, effective methods of developing new designs can be presented. In addition, if new analysis is conducted on structures with traditional beauty including a handle of a fan and decor paper which this study did not covered, more refined and various designs can be developed in expressing the feeling of a round fan in modern dress.;오늘날 우리는 국제화를 넘어 세계를 하나의 시장으로 간주하는 세계화시대에 살고 있다. 이에 따라 세계 각 국의 패션산업은 유행이라는 큰 흐름을 통해서 공통된 양상을 띠고 있기도 하다. 그러나 유행은 특성상 동일한 패션경향을 보이고 있는 반면, 현재 전 세계적으로 자국의 민족, 문화, 전통에 기반을 두고 재조명한 디자인들이 이국적이면서 독특함으로 세계시장에서 깊은 인상을 심어 주고 있다. 그러므로 패션의 다양화를 위해 과거의 전통적 모티브를 새로운 기법이나 소재를 통해서 차별화 시킬 필요가 있다. 본 논문은 이러한 시점에서 한국적 이미지를 나타내는 다양한 소재 중, 생활필수품인 동시에 우리민족의 멋과 기풍이 예술로 승화된 장식품인 전통부채를 작품의 소재로 활용하였다. 전통미에 대한 관심이 많아지면서 전통 공예품들이나 장신구등을 가지고 현대의상디자인의 모티브로 활용한 사례들은 많았으나 전통부채의 경우 모티브의 활용도가 다양함에도 불구하고 현대의상에 응용한 사례가 많지 않다. 기존에 현대의상에 활용한 부채에 대한 연구는 접선(접는 부채)의 풍부한 주름을 플리츠(기계주름)기법으로 현대의상에 응용하거나, 단선(둥근 부채, 방구 부채)의 한 종류인 태극선의 태극 문양을 응용한 사례들이 있다. 그러므로 본 연구에서는 현대의상디자인에 전통부채를 모티브로 하여 다양하게 응용하기 위해 조선시대이후 부채가 실용적으로 사용되다가 점차 장식화 되면서 단선의 부채머리모양이 단순히 원형에서 여러 동, 식물을 본 떠 변화하게 된 형태미와 단선의 종이 속에서 뻗어나간 부채 살의 입체미를 가지고 현대의상에 응용해 보고자 한다. 따라서 본 연구의 목적은 한국적 전통미의 모티브로서 전통 공예품 중 실용적이면서도 장식미를 가진 조선시대 전통부채 단선의 고찰을 통하여, 단선 부채 살의 입체감을 나타내기 위해 터킹(tucking), 파이핑(piping), 퀼팅(quilting)기법을 활용하여 의상디자인에 응용하고, 단선머리(선두)형태의 심플한 선의 구성을 나타내기 위해 패치워크(patch work), 아플리케(applique)기법 등을 활용하여 의상디자인에 응용함으로써, 한국 전통미의 계승과 장식적, 예술적인 모티브로서의 발전가능성을 제시하고 다양한 표현기법을 제안하는데 있다. 본 연구에서는 부채의 일반적 고찰을 통해 그 정의와 역사, 그리고 부채의 일반적 구조에 대해서 알아보고 전통부채의 종류를 분류하였다. 그리고 그 중 전통의 한 모티브로 조선시대 전통부채 중 단선의 조형적 특성을 알아보기 위해 단선을 형태와 재료, 용도에 따라 그 종류를 분류하여 각각의 조형성을 알아보았다. 또한 부채의 조형미를 응용하여 현대 패션으로 전개시킨 디자이너들의 작품을 살펴보았다. 이상의 조선시대 전통부채에 대한 일반적 고찰을 토대로 전통부채 단선을 모티브로 하여 부채 살의 선(직선과 곡선)과 부채머리(선두)형태를 조형적으로 재구성하여 현대 의상에 디자인하였다. 실크소재의 사용으로 종이부채의 소박한 멋에 고급스러움을 더하였고, 터킹(tucking), 퀼팅(quilting)기법, 파이핑(piping)기법을 통해서 부채 살의 은은한 입체감을 나타내었다. 그리고 패치워크(patch work), 아플리케(applique)기법을 통해 부채 선의 조형적 형태미를 복식에 도입하여 총 8벌의 의상을 제작하였다. 이러한 연구를 통해 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 단선의 조형적 요소 중 부채의 형태가 가지고 있는 완만한 곡선과 급격한 곡선, 그리고 직선의 조화는 단순할 수 있는 여성복의 밑단과 여밈 라인, 프린세스 라인의 변화 등의 모티브로 활용하기에 적합하였다. 둘째, ‘종이’라는 소재로 인해 투박하고 실용적 이미지를 가지고 있는 부채를 수직실크, 실크 쉬폰, 크리스탈 노방, 산퉁 실크, 새틴 등의 단아하고 고급스런 느낌의 소재의 사용으로 품위 있는 여성미를 표현 할 수 있었다. 셋째, 단선에 사용된 종이색인 흰색을 중심으로 해서 염색하여 쓴 여러 종이의 색상과 문양지의 블랙 컬러의 배색은 현대 의상 디자인에 적합하였으며, 패치워크, 아플리케의 기법 등은 여러 동, 식물을 모티브로 하여 나타난 부채머리(선두)형태의 선을 현대적 이미지의 선으로 재구성하여 현대 의상에 적용하는데 적합하였다. 넷째, 터킹(tucking), 퀼팅(quilting)기법은 종이 속에서 방향감 있게 뻗어나가는 역동적인 부채 살의 입체미를 나타내는데 적합하였으며, 스폰지를 이용한 퀼팅(quilting)기법과 파이핑(piping)기법은 부채 살들이 양면의 종이 속에서 눌려져 나타내는 엠보싱 같은 굴곡과 가지런한 부채 살의 느낌을 표현하는데 적합한 시도였다. 이러한 제언을 바탕으로 생활필수품인 동시에 우리민족의 멋과 기풍이 예술로 승화된 장식품인 전통부채 속에 담긴 부채 살의 입체감과 부채모양을 시대에 맞게 재구성, 재창조한다면 새로운 디자인 개발의 효과적인 방법을 제시할 수 있을 것이다.
