음악의 시각화에 의한 의상디자인 연구

Abstract

The present study purposed to visualize images felt in music by approaching human sentiment based on synesthetic interpretation, and to apply the expression of rhythmic sense to dress design. This is the combination of music, which is an acoustic art, and dress, which is a visual art as an attempt to expand the area of dress design. Specifically this study measured and analyzed musical sense objectively, and visualized it to express visual effects as if watching music with the eye. For the visualization of music, we examined the concept of synesthesia and the correlation between hearing and seeing, and reviewed theoretical grounds and a number of cases necessary in reproducing musical sense visually based on synesthetic expression. Furthermore, we studied the visual elements and associated colors of rhythm to prove that visual conception of music through various approaches enable a transitional approach to aesthetic exploration and interpretation. Classic music was selected as a genre for the visualization of music centering on the expression of rhythmic sense, which is the subject of this research. The five pieces of music were chosen referring to books on classic music, relevant Internet Web sites, and advice from specialists in classic music. We conducted a questionnaire survey in order to extract design elements, and used visual image maps expressing the rhythmic sense of basic formative elements in the questionnaire survey in order to survey musical sense. In the survey, subjects were asked to choose the images fittest to the music among 25 image maps arranged arbitrarily while they were listening to the five pieces of music. Based on the result of analyzing the subjects' response, eight pieces of dress were designed. This study utilized sensibility ergonomics to investigate and analyze musical sense. The taste scale method used in measuring sensibility is a kind of sensibility system map that classifies various formative objects of sense including sensible language systematically based on people's objective judgment of taste and marks it comprehensively on a coordinate space. In the coordinate space of the taste scale, the objects of sensibility are measured, classified and applied commonly to all formative elements. In the present study, sensibility observed in music was expressed more objectively through dress design by applying sound and form based on the coordinate space of taste scale. Considering that rhythm is the most important part in visualizing music, we utilized rhythmic sense in forms obtained from analyzing the results of the questionnaire survey in dress design. Silk and organza were used as materials, and tuck technique and patchwork technique were adopted because they can exhibit rhythmic sense effectively. The design of works was based on the result of questionnaire analysis and taste scale, and silhouette was simplified as a whole to emphasize the expression of musical image. The conclusions drawn from this research are as follows. First, classic music selected for visualization had musical characteristics highly correlated with dress design. Second, basic formative elements suggested as materials of visualization in this study were suitable in their form for expressing the rhythmic sense of music and, because they started from the most basic form, they were effective in extracting design elements. Third, when the result of the questionnaire survey, which was focused on the visualization of the rhythmic sense of the five pieces of classic music, was analyzed from the aspect of sensibility ergonomics, design elements of each piece of music were obtained in an objective and scientific way. Fourth, it was confirmed that common concepts could be derived from intangible elements such as forms and sounds observed in the rhythmic sense of music obtained from the result of the questionnaire survey. Fifth, works were made based on the results of this study and, according to the result, musical images can express sense through dress design and obtain visual effects as if watching music with the eye. Dress design through the visualization of music in this study was an attempt to suggest that the language of music can be expressed in dress design, a visual formative language, based on synesthetic expression. Through this attempt, we confirmed the infinity of music as motives of dress design and suggested a method of aesthetic expression demanded in contemporary society that is pursuing aesthetic values.;예술은 인간이 자신의 내면을 나타내는 거울이며, 자신의 영혼을 담을 수 있는 자기표현의 수단이다. 예술은 표현방법에 따라 여러 가지 형태로 나타나며 표현도구에 따라 여러 가지 방식으로 이해될 수 있다. 인간의 근원적이며 감성적 인식영역인 시각적 능력과 청각적 능력이 이루어 놓은 미술과 음악과의 관계는 상호 밀접한 연관성이 있다. 미술과 음악 두 예술 간에 있어서 각각의 고유한 매체가 있으므로 같은 방법으로 발전해 나가지는 않지만 두 예술이 지향하는 바는 일치한다고 할 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 음악이라는 추상적인 예술모체를 통하여 표출되는 인간내면의 정신작용인 감정, 상상력, 심상 등의 공감각을 고찰하고 이에 따른 음악적 영감을 동시성적 추상표현으로 시각화 하였다. 본 연구의 목적은 음악적 감성을 객관적으로 측정하고 분석하여 이를 시각화함으로써, 눈으로 음악을 보는 듯한 시각적 효과를 표현하는 것이다. 이는 청각예술인 음악을 시각예술인 의상으로 표현하는 각기 다른 장르의 결합으로서, 의상디자인의 새로운 영역을 확보하려는 시도이다. 우선 음악의 시각화를 위해 공감각의 개념 및 청각과 시각의 상호연관성을 고찰하고, 공감각적 표현에 근거하여 음악적 감성을 시각적으로 재현하는 과정에서 필요한 이론적인 근거 및 구체적인 사례들을 살펴보았다. 본 연구에서 다뤄진 총 5곡의 클래식 음악은 음악의 감성을 감성 공학적 측면 즉, 테이스트 스케일 법을 근거로 음악가별 음감기호를 형태감성과 연결 지어 디자인으로 조형화할 수 있기 때문에 선정되었으며 음감좌표축의 5가지 감성클러스트에서 음악리듬에 따른 음악의 감성을 입체적으로 표현한 음악가 별 대표 곡을 클래식 전문서적 참고, 클래식 관련 인터넷 웹 사이트 검색 및 클래식전문가의 조언 등을 근거로 구성되었다. 5곡의 감성조사에는 1차적으로 모집단을 통해 기하학적 조형형태들로 리듬감을 표현한 시각이미지맵이 설문 조사의 자료로 활용되었다. 설문방법은 5곡의 음악을 청취하여 임의로 배치된 25개의 이미지맵 가운데 곡의 이미지와 가장 부합되는 것을 선택하도록 하였으며 그 분석결과에 따라 의상디자인을 전개하고, 총 8작품을 제작하였다. 본 연구에서는 음악의 감성 조사 분석을 위해 감성공학을 활용하였다. 감성측정을 위해 쓰인 테이스트 스케일법(Taste Scale Method)은 감성언어를 비롯한 여러 가지 조형적 감성대상을 사람들의 객관적인 기호판단축에 의거해 체계적으로 분류하고, 그것을 시각적인 좌표공간에 종합적으로 표시한 일종의 감성체계 지도이다. 이 테이스트 스케일의 좌표 공간에서 감성 대상은 측정되고 분류되어서 모든 조형요소에 공통적으로 적용할 수가 있는데, 본 연구에서는 음감과 형태라는 감각요소가 테이스트 스케일의 기호좌표축에서 정의된 것을 근거로 하여 적용함으로써 음악에서 보이는 감성을 의상디자인으로 보다 객관적인 표현이 가능하게 하였다. 음악을 시각화하는데 가장 중요한 부분이 리듬임을 감안하여 설문분석을 근거로 하여 얻어진 형태들의 리듬감을 의상디자인에 활용하였다. 소재로는 실크와 노방을 사용하였으며 모티브의 표현적 측면에서 반복된 리듬감을 효과적으로 나타낼 수 있다는 점에서 터킹 기법과 패치워크 기법을 주 표현 기법으로 채택하였다. 실루엣은 전체적으로 심플하게 전개하여 음악적 이미지 표현에 중점을 두었다. 본 연구를 통해 얻어진 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 본 연구에서 시각화의 대상으로 선정한 클래식 음악은 음악의 감성을 감성공학적 측면 즉, 테이스트 스케일 법에서 음악가별 음감기호를 형태감성과 연결 지어 디자인으로 조형화할 수 있다는 점에서 그 음악적 특성과 의상디자인과의 연관성이 매우 높았음을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 본 연구에서 시각적 모티브로 제시 된 기하학적 조형형태들은 시각적 언어형태로 재현이 가능하며 극도로 단순화되어진 형태로 시각적인 전달이 빠른 기본형태이므로 음악의 리듬감을 표현하기에 적합하며, 가장 단순한 기하학적 요소로 환원시킨 형태에서 출발하므로 디자인요소를 추출하는데 있어 보다 효과적이었다. 셋째, 5곡의 클래식 음악의 감성을 객관적으로 도출해 내어 시각 조형화하기 위해 기존의 시각 조형화 방법과 인간 감성을 측정하는 감성공학방법 중의 하나로 쓰이고 있는 테이스트 스케일법을 적절히 조화시켜 적용함으로써 심상의 객관적 도출을 가능하게 함과 동시에 시각모티브를 객관적이고 과학적인 방법으로 얻어낼 수 있었다. 넷째, 음악의 리듬감을 시각화하기 위한 설문 조사 결과를 분석한 결과 설문이 이루어진 5곡의 음악적 감성은 기하학적 조형형태 및 색채와 질감을 통하여 의상디자인의 모티브로 제공되어 조형형태의 감성을 전달하며 음악의 리듬감을 나타내는 형태들과 소리라는 무형의 요소들은 감성에 적용시켜 공통된 개념으로 끌어 낼 수 있음을 알 수 있었다. 다섯째, 연구의 결과를 종합하여 작품을 제작한 결과 음악적 이미지는 의상 디자인을 통해 그 감성의 표현이 가능하며 음악을 눈으로 보는 것과 같은 시각적 효과를 나타낼 수 있다는 사실을 재확인 할 수 있었다. 본 연구에서 행해진 음악의 시각화에 의한 의상디자인은 공감각적 표현에 근거하여 음악의 언어를 의상디자인이라는 시각적 조형 언어로 표현이 가능하다는 것을 제시하는 하나의 시도로서 진행되었다. 이를 통해 의상디자인의 모티브로 활용할 수 있는 무한한 영역을 확인하고 감성적 가치 중심으로 변화한 현대 사회에서 요구되는 감성표현방법을 제시하고자 한다.
