고려청자의 당초문양을 응용한 의상디자인 연구

Abstract

Currently, modern societies are gradually becoming much more globalized, in which case, maintaining traditional customs is an excellent method of expressing each culture’s unique characteristics. However, in modern societies, such traditions are becoming more diminished, which is a matter of regret. It should be noted that each culture is familiar with the local resident and thus, the design that represents the regionally-unique culture can be invented by the individual who belongs to the regional-cultural area. In this context, to design traditional matters which can adjust to modern society is an excellent way to uphold great traditions and to modernize them. In this study, I analyzed the various forms of traditional Korean craftsmanship as well as its sprit and represented their patterns with the braiding technique. In addition, I applied it to the modern clothing design in order to give prominence to the characteristics and moreover, attempted to suggest the design cases that have both Korean traditional images and universal images. As to the content and research method in chapter 2, First, I outlined the history of the Koryo celadon. Secondly, I mentioned the types of the Koryo celadon as well as the significance of such celadon. Thirdly, I suggested several patterns in the Koryo celadon. Fourth, I analyzed in particular the dang-cho pattern. Finally, through modern clothing designs of the use of the dang-cho pattern, I analyzed the variations and application methods of expression. In Chapter 3, firstly, I researched the history of braids and it’s significant meaning. Secondly, I researched the various production techniques and produced the form of braids that can be changed by the use of material and production techniques. Finally, I researched various studies of customary designs with braids. Based on the result of this research, I reconstructed the dang-cho patterns in the Koryo celadon and applied them on simple forms of design by applying principles of reduction, extension and relocation. Based on this research and analysis, the following conclusions were obtained. First, the dang-cho pattern is a source of limitable pattern through reduction, extension, repetition and relocation. Secondly, due to the fact that the soft curved lines of the dang-cho pattern contain rhythmical elegance, it is in perfect balance with the human body and also it is a vitalized design. Thirdly, thin and delicacy braids are well suited for expression of uniquely beautiful curved lines. Fourthly, braids are a form of expressive material with thickness and through the use of braids, it is possible to obtain certain effects. Fifthly, due to the fact that braids contain flexibility, various types of the dang-cho pattern were freely expressed and were adapted to the pattern’s specificity and images with different weaving techniques. Sixthly, braids with silk and leather contain a quiet gloss and they are used to express delicate images and quality. Therefore, such braids are suitable material for Haute-Couture clothing. For these conclusions, I believe that designing clothing with the use of dang-cho patterns and the braids technique, it is possible to create new designs as well as the artisan spirit. Therefore, it has merit that the artists can express their individuality. By overcoming it’s weakness that is long working times by handmaids, hope for many-sided follow-on studies so that braids techniques can be applied broadly to modern clothing.;점차 세계화되어가는 현대 사회에서 각 지역의 특색을 가장 잘 표현할 수 있는 방법은 각 문화의 고유한 전통을 현대적으로 계승하는 길밖에 없다. 하지만 세계화 물결에 따라 이러한 전통이 현대사회에서 그 의미를 잃어 가고 있는 것은 매우 안타까운 일이 아닐 수 없다. 각 문화는 그 지역 사람들에게 가장 친숙하기 때문에 지역 특색을 살린 디자인 역시 그 지역 문화권에 속한 사람들에 의해 가장 잘 창안될 수 있다. 이러한 맥락에서 전통을 살려 현대사회에 맞게 디자인해 나아가는 것이 전통을 계승하고 현대화 시킬 수 있는 좋은 방법이라 생각한다. 본 연구에서는 한국 고유의 장인정신과 얼이 담긴 고려청자의 당초 문양을 분석한 후, 그 문양을 브레이딩(Braiding) 기법으로 표현하여, 현대 의상디자인에 응용함으로써 고유성을 부각시킴과 동시에 한국적 이미지에 보편성이 부여된 디자인 사례를 제시하고자하였다. 본 연구의 내용과 방법으로 제2장에서는 첫째, 고려청자의 역사를 개관한 후, 둘째, 고려청자의 특징과 종류를 알아보았고, 셋째, 고려청자에 나타난 여러 문양들을 제시한 다음, 넷째, 그 중에 당초문양에 대해 구체적으로 분석하였다. 마지막으로 당초문양을 응용한 현대 의상디자인을 통해 표현기법의 다양성과 디자인에의 적용방식을 살펴보았다. 제3장에서는 첫째, 브레이드(Braid)의 사전적 의미와 역사를 고찰한 후, 그 의미의 영역을 여러 문헌을 통해 가늠해 보았고, 둘째, 브레이드의 다양한 제작기법에 대한 연구를 통해 재료와 제작기법에 따라 달라지는 브레이드의 형태를 살펴보았다. 마지막으로, 브레이드를 이용한 복식디자인의 사례를 조사하였다. 위의 연구를 토대로 고려청자의 당초문양을 재구성하고 이를 단순한 형태의 디자인에 확대, 축소, 재배열 등의 원리를 적용하여 총8벌의 작품을 제작하였다. 작품제작을 통해 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 고려청자에 나타난 여러 당초문양을 단위 형태로 분리, 이를 반복, 재배치, 확대, 축소함으로써 새로운 당초문양으로 창출이 가능하여 무한한 문양 디자인의 원천임을 확인할 수 있었다. 둘째, 당초 문양의 부드러운 곡선은 율동미를 지니고 있어 인체의 형상과 조화를 이룰 뿐 아니라 디자인에 활력을 주는 요소로 작용함을 확인할 수 있었다. 셋째, 가늘고 섬세한 브레이드의 선적 조형미는 청자의 당초문양에서 보여지는 독특한 곡선미를 표현하는데 적합함을 발견할 수 있었다. 넷째, 브레이드는 두께를 지닌 표현 소재로써 이를 문양에 활용함으로써 부조적 장식 효과를 거둘 수 있었다. 다섯째, 브레이드는 유연성을 가지고 있기 때문에 여러 형태의 당초문양을 자유롭게 시문 할 수 있었고, 각기 다른 짜임기법으로 문양의 특성과 이미지에 맞출 수 있었다. 여섯째, 실크 사와 가죽에 의한 브레이드는 잔잔한 광택과 함께 섬세하고 고급스러운 이미지를 표출하기 때문에 고부가가치의 Haute-Couture 의상 소재로 적합함을 확인 할 수 있었다. 이상의 결과로 당초문양과 브레이딩 기법을 응용한 의상디자인은 작가의 장인정신과 새로운 디자인의 재창조를 가능케 함으로써 작가의 개성을 자유롭게 표출할 수 있는 장점을 지녔다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 본래 브레이딩 기법은 오랜 시간이 요구되는 수공예였으나 현대의상에 폭넓게 활용될 수 있도록 다각적인 후속 연구를 기대해 본다.
