고려동경(銅鏡) 식물문을 응용한 복식디자인 연구

Abstract

우리나라는 세계적으로 자랑할 만한 독창적인 문화유산을 많이 가지고 있음에도 불구하고 그것의 가치를 제대로 세계 속에서 발휘하지 못하고 있다. 세계는 이미 하나의 네트워크를 형성하며 다변화되고 융화 되어왔다. 이러한 현상은 각 민족 고유의 정체성을 찾고 타 문화와 차별화된 독창적인 전통 문화에 대한 욕구로 이어지고 있으며, 패션도 예외는 아닐 것이다. 이것은 단지 전통의 가시적인 외형만을 의상에 도입하는 것을 말하는 것은 아니며 우리 문화만을 내세우는 고답적인 자세도 아닐 것이다. 전통에 대한 바른 이해가 선행되고, 창조와 계승의 관점에서 재창조하여 의상으로 제작, 그 예술적 가치와 의미를 부여하여야 한다. 그 중 전통 문양이야말로 그 시대를 산 민족의 사고를 응축한 표현이며 시대의 미를 집약하는 미적 작품, 더 나아가서는 인간 능력의 보족수단(補足手段)으로써의 역할까지도 담당하며 발전하여 왔다. 그러한 관점에서 고려동경의 배면(背面)의 다종다양(多種多樣)한 문양은 다른 어떤 유물보다도 각 시대정신과 미를 잘 담아내고 있다. 경(鏡)은 본래 외관을 비춰보는 용도로 사용되는 것이지만 금속기가 귀하던 시절 청동기 거울은 하나의 상서로운 존재로 간주되었다. 그리하여 그 뒷면에 문양에 큰 의미를 부여하고 다양한 문양을 시문함으로서 이를 사용하는 사람들의 생활 감정과 염원까지도 함께 담아 표현하였다. 시대에 흐름에 따라 형태, 문양 또는 재료면에서는 변화가 있으나 어떤 형식적이나 의식적인 욕구에 의해서가 아닌 순수한 인간욕망에 의해 사용되어졌기에 경(鏡)은 예나 지금이나 동서를 통해 변함없이 일상생활과 밀접한 관계를 지닌 공예품이다. 본 연구는 동경 배문에 새겨진 문양의 정신과 예술적 가치를 패션에 접목시키는데 있어 양각효과를 잘 살릴 수 있도록 누노 펠트기법을 활용하여 동경의 식물문의 재현을 시도하였다. 그 과정을 통해 의상에 있어서 전통의 현대적 활용과 실생활 속으로 끌어 들일 수 있는 가능성을 제시하고자 한다. 연구방법과 내용으로는 첫째, 고려동경의 기원과 역사를 문헌자료를 통해 알아보았다. 고려동경은 유물이 가지는 가치에 비하여, 아직 많은 연구가 진행되지 않았다. 다른 유물과는 달리 동경은 그 가치가 새롭게 평가받기 시작한 공예품으로 연구 자료가 미비한 점이 있으나, 동경 문헌자료 및 기타 금속공예 문헌을 통합하여 고찰하였다. 둘째, 고려동경을 문양을 잘 이해하기 위하여, 가장 영향을 많이 받은 중국의 당, 송의 동경을 문헌을 통해 정리하였다. 셋째, 전반적인 동경에 대한 고찰을 통해 고려동경 다양한 문양을 유형별, 형태별로 분류하였다. 문양별 유형은 학자마다 그 구분에 차이가 있으나, 공통되는 요소만을 조합하여 정리하였다. 넷째, 고려동경 문양 중에서 이번 작품제작에 모티브로 사용하게 될 식물문 만을 따로 분류하여 문양별 종류와 특징을 알아보았다. 다섯째 고려동경 문양을 모티브를 응용한 현대 패션디자인 사계를 찾아 그 표현기법과 특징에 대해 알아보았다. 기법에 관한 고찰에서는 첫째, 본 연구에서 표현기법으로 사용하게 될 펠트에 대한 일반적 특징과 종류에 대해 고찰하였고 둘째, 작품의 주 표현기법인 누노 펠트에 대하여 문헌을 통하여 정리하고 제작과정을 기술하였다. 셋째, 누노 펠트 기법을 이용한 디자인 사례를 조사하였다. 이를 토대로 고려동경 문양을 현대적으로 재해석하여 실물 작품을 제작하였다. 본 연구의 결론을 종합하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 우리 문화와 함께 발전해온 고려 동경의 식물문은 단위 문양의 분리가 가능하며, 문양의 다각도의 배치에 의해 의상에 접목하여 다양한 율동 미와 화려함을 표현할 수 있었다. 둘째, 고려 동경의 식물문의 화려함과 장식 미는 현대 복식디자인의 적용에 새로운 모티브가 될 가능성을 보여주었다. 셋째, 누노 펠트 기법에 펠트꽃잎을 활용함으로써 문양에 부조적 입체감을 표현할 수 있으며, 소재와 다른 색상의 자수와 비딩을 첨가함으로 색상 구성의 변화와 다양한 표현효과를 가져왔다. 넷째, 누노 펠트의 특징을 고려한 디자인을 통해 투시와 비 투시효과의 활용을 보여주었으며 투시되는 비치는 원단에서의 문양은 더욱 도드라져 보이는 효과를 가져왔다. 다섯째, 누노 펠트가 가지는 조형적인 아픔다움과 자연스러운 주름의 느낌은 펠트를 소품에서 의상으로의 접목과 신소재 기법의 활용을 넓힐 수 있는 계기가 되었다. 뿐만 아니라 누노 펠트 직물과 펠트 가공된 펠트지와의 매치 통해 대중적인 소재로의 활용범위를 모색하였다. 본 연구를 통해 고려동경 문양에 대한 가치를 새롭게 인식하게 되었으며, 앞으로도 더욱더 다각도의 연구와 새로운 인식이 뒷받침되어 우리 민족 문화가 세계무대에서 새로운 도약을 시도할 수 있는 가능성을 부여하고자 한다.;We have the brilliant heritage of culture with a 5000-year-old history from time immemorial. Among them, various shapes and patterns in Koryo Bronze Mirror express an artistic idea and an aesthetic sense that our ancestors had at that time. The new understanding and a high valuation of this cultural heritage could be the groundwork for the development of the modern design in which we can have an international competitive power all over the world. It is as follows to sum up the characteristics of Koryo Bronze Mirror through this study. First, the pattern of Koryo Bronze Mirror shows the highest reach of folk arts, which include our national tradition of various symbolisms and wishes. Second, like other reamins, the pattern of Koryo Bronze Mirror used Banje with partial transformation of Chinese pattern. And Gilsang of good omen in its rear expressed the wishes like wealth, prolificacy and descendants' prosperity by adding prose and poetry, the figure of the sun and the moon, and the pattern of a dragon, which were based on the Chinese Bronze Mirror like a motif found in Hwangbichangcheon. Third, as the symbolisms of Koryo Bronze Mirror was applied to daily necessaries, various beautiful decorative patterns were used for the rear ones. Also, a bronze mirror was accompanied with a comb and cosmetic tweezers little by little. This means its concept regarding sacrificial rites and something divine has disappeared in the process of common use of a bronze mirror. Instead, it showed that a bronze mirror was changed into daily necessaries like cosmetic articles. In this way, analysis of the pattern in a bronze mirror is difficult to be done, for there is a scientific basis inadequate to clearly discern the background of the times and Bangjegyeong, but our anscestors' spirit and artistic value that we can feel in the pattern of a bronze mirror presented the possibility of development in a more accurate study of art history and design in the future. In producing the works based on the symbolism and value in the pattern of a bronze mirror, the method of Nuno Felt was used to maximize the embossment effect. Nuno Felt has been often used in a costume rather than a collection, but it showed the possibility of good use as a new material with a new trend. Total eight suits of clothes were produced in consideration of this theoretical examination and the selection of proper materials. The results of this study are as follows; First, the plant pattern in Koryo Bronze Mirror, which has developed with our culture, could be sepatated as a unit pattern and diversified arrangements of the pattern applied to clothing made it possible to express various rhythmical beauty and the splendor. Second, it presented a possibility that the splendor and decorative beauty of a plant pattern in Koryo Bronze Mirror could be a new motif in applying to the design of modern clothes. Third, the cubic effect of embossment in the pattern could be expressed by applying a petal Felt to the method of Nuno Felt. And the change in the composition of color tones and various effects of expression were caused by adding embroidery and beading with different materials and color tones. Fourth, the application between seeing-through and non-seeing-through was presented through the design in consideration of the characteristic of Nuno Felt. And the pattern in the see-through fabric had the effect of making it look more protrudent. Fifth, thanks to the formative beauty and natural pleats of Nuno Felt, minor use of Felt turned into major one as dress and it paved the way for application of new material method. Also, we tried to find the range of application as popular materials through matching Nuno Felt with Nuno Felt fabric processed in Felt. Judging from these results, applying artistic value of the pattern in Koryo Bronze Mirror to dress formation makes it possible to modernize traditional beauty in the design of modern clothes. Above all, it is thought that this can contribute to let the whole world know Koreans' originality. From now on, more concern and study of a bronze mirror should go on and the development and study of various methods that can be applied as the modern degisn should be made along with them.
