천체 이미지를 응용한 의상 디자인 연구

Abstract

Clothing has closely been associated with the human civilization. The origin of clothing, like the origin of humanity itself, remains obscure, but is presumed to coincide with the beginning of human civilization. With the development of civilization, man's areas of interest have expanded beyond his surroundings to include the universe and celestial objects. Accordingly, the theme of art and culture was also extended to the outer space. The ancient people perceived the universe as a sacred place, and the celestial bodies as a product of divine creation. The spirit of inquiry among the Greek people had led to the observation of the universe and its constituents. As science advanced, various hypothesis derived from such observations were confirmed, and the mysteries of the universe had been revealed. Moreover, the advent of the space age in the 1960s had maximized people's interest in the universe and its elements, and fashion design reflecting the image of the universe had appeared. Fashion design that actually expresses the beauty of the universe and celestial bodies, however, did not thrive, and designs have mainly applied the shape of stars. Therefore, there are not many studies on fashion design which applies fascinating images of celestial beings. This study employed beading techniques in expressing the intrinsic beauty of celestial bodies. Various beads and materials with shimmering features were used to express the light generated by celestial objects. The images of celestial constituents were reorganized and featured in simplified or realistic motives in an attempt to diversify the expression. The study aims to analyze various types of celestial objects and their formative characteristics, and learn about the history and techniques ofbeading, thereby applying new materials and techniques in expressing the beauty of celestial bodies in the space and eventually creating a high-value-added and practical modern fashion design. The contents and methods of this study cover theoretical review on celestial objects and beading techniques. The review on celestial bodies includes defining their concept and analyzing their types and formative attributes. Based on this, the researcher collected and analyzed photos of fashion design with celestial images. As for the review on beading techniques, the researcher defined beads and beading, studied its historical background and identified various types of beads and beading techniques. Likewise, photo images of apparel designs employing beading techniques were collected and analyzed. Beading techniques were used to adopt celestial images to the fashion design of this study. A total of eight pieces of work were produced using glistering primary and auxiliary materials, with a focus on expressing the effects of lights emanated from celestial elements. The researcher employed beading embroidery technique, and along with shimmering beads, hologram films, which are rarely used in the present fashion designs, were cut into slices and were used as beads. The conclusions obtained from this study are as follows: First, the universe and its constituents have various shapes, colors, and glistering features, and thus offer adequate motives for apparel designs. Second, by using soft and lustrous silk as a primary material while partially attaching metallic mesh fabrics, the researcher could express the overlapping image of the space and created a sense of perspective for the celestial objects therein. Third, the changing colors of holograms, which are rarely used in fashion designs as auxiliary material, at different light angles suggested that the use of hologram films as beads was effective in expressing the light of celestial objects of the outer space. Fourth, beading techniques mainly using beads of glass and metal that reflect light, have effectively illustrated the radiant images of heavenly bodies. This study had confirmed that glossy materials and beads are effective in expressing the radiant images of celestial bodies. The formative attributes of celestial objects require continuous research for higher artistic essence of modern fashion designs. Developing new beads like holograms, can provide materials for expressing the celestial image as well as other various images in the modern fashion designs. It is expected that with more studies on fashion designs applying celestial images, designs using various materials and techniques will be further developed.;의복은 인간 문명과 밀접한 관계를 가지고 있다. 의복의 기원은 인간의 기원과 마찬가지로 정확히 설명할 순 없지만 문명의 발생과 함께 시작되었다고 본다. 문명의 발달과 함께 인류의 관심은 주위 환경에서 점차 그 범위가 넓어져 주위 환경 뿐 아니라 우주 공간과 천체에 대한 관심이 증폭되면서 천체의 관측과 연구가 진행되었다. 이에 따라 예술과 문화의 주제도 함께 우주에 까지 확장되었다. 고대인들은 우주를 신적인 공간으로 인식하였으며 천체는 신이 만든 것이라 생각했다. 그러나 그리스인들의 탐구정신이 우주와 천체에 대한 관측으로 이어지면서 천체에 대한 여러 가설들이 세워지고 과학이 발달함에 따라 그것이 입증되면서 우주의 신비가 풀렸다. 또한 1960년대 우주탐사 시대의 개막은 인류의 우주와 천체에 대한 관심을 극대화시키면서 우주 이미지를 반영하는 의상 디자인이 나타나게 되었다. 그러나 정작 우주 공간과 천체의 아름다움을 표현하는 패션 디자인은 활발히 나타나지 않았으며 별 모양을 응용한 디자인들이 대다수였다. 그러므로 천체 자체의 아름다운 이미지를 응용한 의상 디자인에 대한 연구가 부족한 실정이다. 이에 본 연구는 천체 자체의 아름다운 이미지를 의상에 표현함에 있어서 비딩 기법을 사용하였다. 반짝이는 특성을 지닌 다양한 비즈 및 소재를 도입하여 우주 공간에서 천체가 발산하는 빛을 아름답게 표현하였으며 천체의 이미지를 재구성하여 단순화된 모티브나 사실적인 모티브로 나타냄으로써 천체 이미지의 다양한 표현을 시도하였다. 본 연구의 목적은 천체의 종류와 조형적 특성을 분석하고 비딩의 역사와 기법을 익힘으로써, 우주 공간 내에서의 천체의 아름다운 모습을 의상 디자인에 도입함에 있어 새로운 소재와 표현 기법을 적용하여 고부가가치의 실용적인 현대 의상 디자인을 창출하는 데 있다. 본 연구의 내용 및 방법으로는 천체와 비딩 기법에 대한 이론적 고찰을 하여 이를 작품 제작에 반영하였다. 천체에 대한 고찰로는 천체의 개념을 정의하고 천체의 종류 및 조형적 특성을 분석하였으며 이를 바탕으로 천체 이미지를 응용한 의상 디자인에 대한 사진 자료를 수집하여 분석하였다. 비딩 기법에 대한 고찰로는 비즈와 비딩에 대하여 정의하고 비즈의 역사적 배경을 살펴 본 후 비즈와 비딩 기법에 대한 종류를 정리하였고, 이를 토대로 비딩 기법을 통한 의상 디자인에 대한 사진 자료를 수집하여 분석하였다. 본 연구의 작품 제작은 천체 이미지를 의상 디자인에 도입함에 있어서 비딩 기법을 선택하여 사용하고, 반짝이는 소재와 부자재들을 사용하여 우주 공간에서 빛을 발산하는 천체의 느낌을 표현하는 데 초점을 두어 총 8점의 작품을 제작하였다. 비딩 기법으로는 비즈 자수 기법을 사용하였고, 반짝이는 특징을 가진 비즈들과 함께 기존에는 패션 디자인에 잘 사용하지 않았던 홀로그램 필름을 잘게 잘라 비즈로서 사용하였다. 이러한 연구를 통하여 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 우주 공간과 그 안에 존재하는 천체는 다양한 형태와 색채를 지니고 있으며 반짝이는 특징을 가지고 있어 의상 디자인의 모티브로 활용하기에 적합하다. 둘째, 부드러운 광택을 내는 실크 소재를 주로 사용하고 부분적으로 메탈 느낌의 망사를 겹쳐 사용한 결과 우주 공간의 중첩적인 이미지와 우주 공간에서의 천체의 원근감을 표현할 수 있었다. 셋째, 기존에 패션 디자인의 부자재로서는 잘 사용하지 않던 홀로그램 필름을 비즈로 사용한 결과, 빛의 각도에 따라 색채가 변하는 홀로그램의 특징은 우주 공간의 천체의 빛을 표현하는데 효과적임을 확인할 수 있었다. 넷째, 천체 이미지를 표현하기 위해 Glass beads와 Metal beads 등의 빛을 반사하는 특징을 가진 비즈들을 주로 사용한 비딩 기법은 천체의 반짝이는 이미지를 표현하기에 적합하였다. 본 연구를 통하여 반짝이는 소재와 비즈들을 통해서 우주 공간에서 천체가 발산하는 빛의 이미지를 표현하기에 적합한 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 천체의 조형적인 특성은 현대 의상 디자인의 예술성을 높이기 위한 소재로 지속적인 연구가 필요하다. 또한 홀로그램과 같은 새로운 비즈의 개발은 천체 이미지 뿐 아니라 현대 의상 디자인에 있어서 이미지 표현의 소재로 다양하게 활용될 수 있을 것이다. 앞으로 천체 이미지를 응용한 의상 디자인 연구가 활발하게 이루어져서 다양한 소재와 기법을 활용한 의상 디자인들이 개발되기를 바란다.
