한국 자생 연(蓮)의 조형미를 응용한 의상디자인

Abstract

우리가 가진 과거의 유산은 현재의 창조를 위한 지혜의 공급원이므로 전통문화와 현대 의상과의 접목에는 현대의 인간상이 요구하는 정신성 표출이 있어야 하며 표현 방법 또한 우리의 미적 쾌감을 만족시킬 수 있어야 한다. 우리는 우리 고유의 정신적 문화유산들이 보여주고 있는 심미의식으로부터 출발해서, 국제사회에 통용되고 인정받을 수 있는 현대 한국의 독창적인 모드를 개발하려는 노력이 필요하다. 이에 본 연구는 연꽃이 고대로부터 오늘날에 이르기까지 다양한 형태의 문양으로 사랑받아 온 점에 유의하여, 국내에 자생하는 연을 주제로 인체와 자연스럽게 조화될 수 있는 의상디자인을 개발하고 다양한 현대적 표현기법들을 활용함으로써, 한국적 심미의식을 현대화하고, 고부가가치를 창출하고자 하였다. 본 연구는 특히 국내에서 자생하는 연의 조형미를 다양한 수공예적 기법으로 섬세하게 접근하여 연 고유의 단아하고 기품 있는 이미지를 현대의상에 표출함으로써, 전통에 뿌리를 둔 현대 의상디자인의 가능성 확대에 그 목적이 있다. 본 연구의 작품제작은 이론적 고찰을 통하여 나타난 연의 상징성과 한국에서 자생하는 연의 조형성에 착안하여 현대적 감각의 이미지를 연출하는데 중점을 두고 실물제작 8점으로 표현하였다. 작품제작을 위해 아트 플라워, 자수, 패치워크, 리본아트, 비즈공예, 스모킹 등 다양한 수공예적인 기법을 활용하였다. 본 연구는 연의 이미지를 통해 연의 조형적 특징과 미적 가치를 연구하였다. 이를 바탕으로 연의 형태, 재질, 상징성 등 심미적인 요소를 응용한 새로운 의상디자인 창출의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 연은 우리나라의 훌륭한 문화유산이며, 그 상징성으로 인해 독특한 가치를 갖고있다. 둘째, 연은 단아하고 정결한 미를 지니고 있어 단순하고 깨끗한 의상의 형태와 잘 부합될 수 있는 표현 모티프가 될 수 있었다. 셋째, 연의 조형미는 인체의 곡선과 잘 부합되어 리듬감 있고 부드러운 이미지를 개성 있게 표현 할 수 있었다. 넷째, 과도하지 않은 섬세한 부조적 장식기법을 통해 연의 자연스러운 모습을 다양하고 생생하게 표현할 수 있었다. 다섯째, 투명감있는 소재는 연의 단아하고 기품있는 이미지를 표현하는데 적절하다. 마지막으로 상징성이 강한 연을 모티프로 삼고 그것을 현대화하여 표현함으로써 전통을 재창조하는 독자적인 디자인개발의 가능성을 확인할 수 있었다. 우리는 우리 고유의 전통을 특히 의상디자인 영역에서 재창조함으로서 차별화된 개성적 조형작품들을 제시할 수 있을 뿐 아니라, 이러한 활동과정에서 현대인의 정서적·사회적 요구를 반영시키고 동시에 보다 높은 부가가치를 창출시킬 수 있도록, 독창적이고 또한 예술성이 높은 디자인 방법들을 개발하고 발전시켜야 한다.;Heritage of our past is a rich spring of wisdom for our present creativity. Bridging traditional cultures with modern apparel fashion must involve expression of modern humanity, and its expression methods must satisfy our gratification for beauty. We need to begin comprehending deep meanings of beauty displayed by our own cultural heritage, and move on to develop our very own modern Korean creativity that can be recognized and received by the international community. Therefore, this research considered the ways lotus was loved and used in various shapes and patterns from ancient times to the present time. Taking Korean lotus as a theme, fashion designs were developed to allow natural blending with humans, and various modern expression techniques were devised to modernize the Korean appreciation of beauty, and to produce additional value from the designs. The author carefully approached artistic beauty of Korean lotus through various handicraft methods in attempts to express the elegance and grace of lotus in modern fashion designs, hoping to suggest possibilities of modern designs based on traditional motifs. Product designs were based on the symbolic and artistic beauty of lotus flowers discovered through theoretical studies, and a total of eight pieces of work were produced with emphasis on expression of modern image. Art flower, embroidery, patchwork, ribbon art, beads handicraft, smoking and other handicraft techniques were employed in the production. In this research the author studied artistic features and value of beauty of lotus flowers through the image of lotus. Based on this, artistic elements of lotus, i.e., shape, texture and symbolic value of lotus, were applied into development of new patterns. The research results are as follows. First, the lotus itself is a superior Korean traditional cultural inheritance and its symbolism has a unique value. Second, the lotus' beauty is graceful and elegant and its expressive motif fits well into simple and clean costumes. Third, the lotus' internal formative beauty is harmonized with the curves of a human body and the lotus' image could express satisfactorily and uniquely rhythmical and lovely costumes. Fourth, non-excessive and delicate relief decorative techniques could help represent the natural beauty of a lotus in a various and graphic way. Fifth, the use of transparent materials will be of great help to express a lotus' elegant and dignified image. Lastly, original designs that revive Korean traditions could be created when the motif of a lotus that has strong symbolism is developed into a modern design. By recreating our traditional beauty in arts, especially in fashion design, we can produce differentiated and unique art works, and such activities can richly satisfy emotional and social needs of the modern society. We need to create and develop many unique and artistic design techniques for creation of added value.
