타조깃털 공예기법을 응용한 복식디자인 연구

Abstract

현대사회에서의 복식은 대량생산으로 인하여 점점 획일화되어 가고 있어 다품종 소량생산의 독창적이고 예술적인 고부가가치의 패션이 요구되고 있다. 동시에 다소 고가라 하더라도 핸드 크래프트(Hand Craft)기법을 이용한 아이템들과 자연소재의 인기가 상승하면서 다양한 의상의 소재와 기법 등의 표현양식의 개발이 요구되고 있는 실정이다. 이에 본 연구는 산업과 과학의 발전에 따른 부산물로서 무한한 소재의 홍수라 할 수 있는 현대에서 창의적이고 고급화된 의상을 창출해 내기 위해 천연소재인 타조깃털을 선택하였으며 깃털공예의 다양한 기법을 의상에 도입해 보고자 하였다. 또한 색다른 입체감이 있는 타조가죽의 특수성을 연구하여 의복에서의 활성화를 모색하였다. 본 연구의 목적은 타조소재의 아름다움과 풍부한 표현가능성을 조명하고 그 조형적인 특성을 도입하여 독특하고 새로운 재질표현으로 예술적인 복식디자인을 창출함으로서 복식디자인의 표현영역을 확대하는 데 있다. 본 연구의 내용과 방법은 이론적 연구로서 문헌을 통해 깃털공예의 개념과 역사를 살펴보았다. 깃털공예 기법을 연구 분석하였고, 최근 컬렉션을 통해 깃털공예를 응용한 현대 패션 디자인 사례를 분석하였다. 또한 본 연구의 주 소재인 타조깃털과 타조가죽을 조형적으로 분석하고 타조소재를 활용한 디자인 사례를 고찰하였다. 이를 토대로 타조깃털을 이용하여 여러 가지 기법의 소재를 개발하고, 다양한 디자인으로 코트 2점, 원피스 드레스 2점, 스커트 투피스 3점, 슬랙스 투피스 1점으로 총 8벌의 의상을 제작하였다. 본 연구의 결론을 종합하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 타조깃털은 가볍고, 부드러우며, 풍요로워 다양한 수공예 기법을 표현하는데 적합하기 때문에 과거로부터 현대에 이르기까지 오뜨꾸띄르 패션의 주요한 소재로 사용되고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 깃털을 반복적이거나 불규칙적으로 직물에 많이 부착함으로써 리드미컬한 패턴을 만들어 낼 수 있었으며, 깃털의 움직임으로 복식에 있어서 율동미와 생동감을 강조한 디자인을 창출 할 수 있었다. 셋째, 타조깃털을 니팅 할 때 깃털의 뒤엉키는 성질 때문에 깃털을 이으면서 동시에 니팅을 해야 하는 어려움이 있었지만, 부드럽고 풍성한 질감으로 인해 효과적인 니트 소재로서의 가능성을 제시 할 수 있었다. 넷째, 타조 깃털만을 가지고 묶기(binding), 심기(planting), 니팅(knitting), 누빔(quilting), 컷팅(cutting), 염색(dying), 비딩장식(beading), 술장식(fringe & tassel)기법을 적용하여 다양한 재질감의 복식소재로서의 가능성을 제시 할 수 있었다. 다섯째, 타조깃털, 타조가죽, 실크, 망사, 펠트등 다양한 소재를 사용한 질감대비의 조화가 모노톤의 색채로 인하여 타조소재의 고급스러움과 현대적인 세련미를 부각시켰고, 흑백의 그라데이션 색채는 깃털 공예기법의 섬세함과 재질감의 상승효과를 가져왔다. 여섯째, 타조는 현대 패션에서 필요한 좋은 소재를 제공할 수 있어 농산물 개방정책의 어려움 속에서 우리나라 농촌진흥에 도움 될 수 있는 조류산업이 됨을 알 수가 있었다. 본 연구는 타조라는 독특한 소재를 다양한 기법으로 응용하여 새로운 재질적 표현을 의상에 활용하려는 시도를 하였으며, 이로써 새로운 고부가가치 소재로서의 모색과 전망을 가능케 하였다. 앞으로도 타조깃털을 이용한 깃털 공예기법에 관한 다양한 연구가 보다 새로운 의상디자인을 창출해 내는 발전의 계기가 되었으면 한다.;In our modern society, the costume is being more standardized due to mass production, and it calls for a small quantity of various kinds of original, artistic, and high value-added costumes. At the same time, the expressive modes for varied clothing materials and techniques should be developed as the demand for handcraft items and natural materials is being heightened. At this juncture, this study selects the natural material of ostrich feathers, so that creative and high-grade costumes may be developed in this present age when numerous clothing materials are flooding into the market as a result of the industrial and scientific development, with a view to apply various techniques of the feather craft to costumes and to investigate into the characteristics of ostrich feathers and apply them to costumes. This study is aimed to develop many expressive techniques of feather craft including ostrich feathers and apply them to costumes, for the purpose of manufacturing creative and high-grade clothes. Researches into the specifics of cubic ostrich leathers contribute to the activation of fashion techniques. The formative beauty of costume designs can be reexamined when the characteristics, beauty, expressiveness of ostrich materials are reviewed. This study has been conducted with a focus on related theories and documents so as to know the concept and history of feather craft. The expressive techniques of feather craft were researched and analyzed, and collection of recent costumes also analyzed, for the purpose of assaying the examples of modern fashion designs applied with feather arts. Furthermore, the main subjects of this study, or ostrich feathers and leather, were analyzed from the perspective of the formative arts, and the prospect and values of ostrich materials were examined. Based on the preceding theories and studies, the author developed ostrich materials using various techniques and manufactured a total of eight costumes after applying different design techniques: 2 coats, 2 one-piece dresses, 3 two-piece skirts, and 1 two-piece slacks. The findings of this study include the following: First, ostrich feathers have been used since ancient days as a main material for Haute couture fashion as they are lighter, softer, and richer than any other feathers and very suitable for various craft techniques. Second, ostrich feathers can be turned into a rhythmical pattern when they are attached to recursive and irregular textiles, and the softness of the feathers contributes to the creation of such designs that put emphasis on the rhythmic beauty and liveliness of costumes. Third, the richness and softness of ostrich feathers are effective when they are used as a material for knitting, even though the knitting is difficult because they tend to be easily entangled during the knitting. Fourth, ostrich feathers can be used as a material for varied costumes and applied with such clothing techniques as binding, planting, knitting, quilting, cutting, dying, beading, fringing, and tasselling. Fifth, the monotone of the quality combination of various materials such as ostrich feathers, ostrich leather, silk, gauze, and felt highlights the high-grade and modernistic beauty of ostrich materials, whose black-and- white gradation color leads to the enhancement of delicate expressiveness and qualities of costumes. Sixth, ostriches provide good materials to the costume industry and give help to the agricultural industry in Korea, which is continually suffering from the international pressure to open its agricultural product market. This study made an attempt to apply ostrich feathers to costumes in various and rather radical manners, with an aim to develop them into a high-value added clothing material. The present author hopes that various researches into the ostrich feather craft will be conducted more actively so as to come up with new and avant-garde costume designs.
