민화를 통한 일러스트레이션 연구

Abstract

대중으로 하여금 생활과 사상의 안정을 일깨워 주는 매체로서의 성격은 일러스트레이션의 본질이다. 따라서 일러스트레이션은 일상의 생활공간과 불가분의 관계에 있고, 그로 인하여 풍자와 유모를 필요로 한다. 민화는 정통화의 화론이나 화법에서 출발하지 않고 자유분방하며 서민의 생활과 철학을 잘 반영한 한국적인 취향을 갖춘 그림이다. 민화는 당시의 생활상과 풍습을 전하는 일러스트레이션으로서의 기능과 대중으로 하여금 교화하도록 하는 전도성을 띠고 있다. 민화는 도식화되어 대중으로 하여금 교육적 메시지를 전달한다. 뿐만 아니라 민중의 풍자와 해학의 특징이 있다. 이러한 일러스트레이션의 기능으로 볼 때 민화는 훌륭한 일러스트레이션이라고 말할 수 있다. 민화는 작가의 창작 의욕이나 개성이 적극적으로 개입도기 어려운 틈이 그림이었다. 그렇기 때문에 민화에는 민중의 요구에 따라 민중의 미의식과 정감이 자연스럽게 표현되었다. 우리 민중의 미의식과 정감이 민중이 오랜 역사를 통하여 이 땅에 살면서 심신에 축척된 생활 철학과 생활 감정이 시각적으로 구체화된 상태가 민화이므로 민화는 우리민중의 생활 미술이라 할 수 있다. 곧 민화는 민중이 낳은 일러스트레이션이다. 민화는 형성되는 과정에서 끊임없이 새로운 소재를 끌어들이고 개성 있는 자신의 것으로 소화시킨다. 따라서 민화에는 민중의 미의식과 정감이 구체적으로 표현되어 민화의 내용적인 특징과 조형적인 특징이 잘 나타나 있고, 이러한 특징들이 본인에게 민화가 개성있고 매력있는 한 양식으로 느껴지게 하였다. 또한 민화의 특수한 발상과 자유분방한 표현은 현대적 감각에 부합되고 민화적인 구도, 선, 색채의 표현과 그 소재적 원용으로 현대 일러스트레이션으로서의 가능성이 보이게 되었다. 민화의 조형성과 일러스트레이션적인 특성을 살펴본 결과 본인은 민화가 독창적인 특징을 내포하고 있는 일러스트레이션 장르로 이 시대에 부응될 미의식의 요소가 충분히 있다고 판단하였다. 그리하여 본 연구에서는 민화의 내용적인 특징과 조형적인 특징에 대한 연구를 통해 민화의 일러스트레이션으로서의 가능성과 장점을 모색하여 본인의 작품에 표현하고자 한다.;Illustration itself brings one's attention to life and the stability of thoughts. It can be said to be the origin of illustration. So, it has an inseparable relation with space of life and thus makes it necessary to be expressed by satire and humor. Minhwa does not start from theory and arts of orthodox painting arts, in that respect,it is so liberal and shows people's life and philosophy with Korean taste. It takes on the functional character as illustration delivering lifestyle and customs in those days and educational power for civilization. It delivers educational message to the general public as diagrammatized. In terms of its function, Minhwa is good illustration. Minhwa does not so much express author'sdesire for creation due to in those days of historical background. In that reason, aesthetic consciousness and feelings are naturally represented with the request of general public. Through long history, accumulated philosophy of life and feelings is visualized in a concrete way together with people's aesthetic consciousness and feelings. So, Minhwa can surely be expressed as arts of life to our people. That is to say, Minhwa is illustration created by the public. Minhwa has continually drawn new elements and makes them on its own style. So, aesthetic consciousness and feelings are visualized in a concrete way representing figurative character. These character made me feel unique and attractive to it. In addition, its special conception and liberal expression correspond to modern sense. Minhwa suggests the possibility of modern illustration in a sense of composition, line, expression of color. So in this research, I would like to express merits of Minhwa through the characteristic contents and figurative character by seeking the functional character as illustration and merits.
