Title: NFT
Ewha Authors:
NFTs, or also known as Non-Fungible Tokens, are irreplaceable and unique tokens used in various fields such as culture and art, due to the fact that they cannot be copied or forged. The NFT market is growing rapidly, with many international and domestic corporations establishing NFT marketplaces to buy and sell NFTs, which is developing the NFT ecosystem. To support the growth of the NFT industry, widespread adoption of NFTs is indispensable. However, NFT market places are designed with a focus on experts, using concepts and specialized terms that make it difficult for rookies to understand, acting as a significant barrier to the needed widespread adoption. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to assist beginners in understanding NFTs and provide guidelines for onboarding that facilitate a successful experience. While prevalent research on the popularization of NFTs is diverse, covering areas such as regulations, culture, and technology, research on the usability of NFTs is finite, especially in the onboarding-related aspects. To contribute to the development and diversity of NFT usability research, the study focuses on the artwork exploration stage, setting it as the scope of the entire research. The chosen subject for the research is OpenSea, currently the top NFT market place in terms of buyers and transactions. The research is going to rely on Honeycomb model devised by Peter Morville, a pioneer of the fields of information architecture and user experience as the standard for usability evaluation and research hypotheses. This study compares the usability satisfaction scores of OpenSea with and without onboarding, validating the improvement in onboarding usability. The procedures are as follows. Firstly, the research process involves theoretical discussions on NFT concepts, features, and the current status of NFT market places. Additionally, onboarding concepts and features are investigated, and onboarding case analysis criteria are established through pre-existing research. The study then analyzes onboarding cases within NFT market places. Secondly, user surveys are conducted to identify difficulties users face on OpenSea and to assess usability satisfaction. Thirdly, based on the collected data, affinity diagrams, personas, and user journey maps are created. Subsequently, design strategies and detailed guidelines for onboarding are derived, leading to the development of a first prototype. The prototype undergoes refinement through expert evaluation, resulting in the final prototype. Fourthly, the usability satisfaction of OpenSea with added onboarding is evaluated, and the scores are compared with OpenSea without onboarding to validate the improvement in onboarding usability. The research findings indicate that OpenSea with onboarding achieves higher usability satisfaction scores than OpenSea without onboarding, confirming the research hypothesis. Based on these findings, this research proposed onboarding design strategies and detailed guidelines for NFT market places. This study holds its value in the sense that it contributes to the expansion of the NFT ecosystem by lowering entry barriers for beginners through the suggestion of onboarding guidelines within the NFT market place. It also acknowledges limitations, such as the potential influence of learning effects on the second usability evaluation compared to the first one due to conducting two usability evaluations with the same participants. As a follow-up, the research suggests conducting onboarding studies in various stages beyond the artwork exploration stage in NFT marketplaces to further contribute to the development of NFT usability research.2024-01-01T00:00:00ZA Proposal for Progressive Detailing Generative Design for Text-to-Image Co-Creation: Integrating the Hand Drawing Process

Title: A Proposal for Progressive Detailing Generative Design for Text-to-Image Co-Creation: Integrating the Hand Drawing Process
Ewha Authors: CHUNG LIK LIZ
Abstract: The emergence of generative artificial intelligence has significantly impacted the process of visual art creation. Text-to-Image (TTI) generative models, a key development in this field, facilitate the transformation of textual descriptions into high-quality images. Despite their technological capabilities, these models function in an end-to-end manner, which limits user intervention in the intermediate stages of image generation. This approach does not fully address the progressive and iterative nature of human creativity, where ideas progressively evolve from rough outlines to detailed images. Recognizing this limitation, our study proposes a new approach to TTI generative models, termed Progressive Detailing Generative Design (PDGD). This approach respects the natural progression of the creative process by progressively revealing image details based on user input and maintaining ambiguity in unspecified areas. This approach promises a more intuitive and engaging creative process for generative design. The study involved 141 participants with backgrounds or interests in visual art and design. We conducted a 7-point Likert scale survey and a qualitative usability test, employing a within-subjects approach for both assessments. During these evaluations, participants interacted with both the DrawFlow system and a baseline system, each equipped with specific scenario settings. We gathered participant responses regarding three research hypotheses: perception of progressive output, collaborative experience, and final image satisfaction. To assess these hypotheses, we analyzed participant feedback across eight dimensions: intuitiveness, visualization, incubation, control, enjoyment, expressiveness, worth, and alignment. The results demonstrated a significant preference for the DrawFlow system across all evaluated dimensions. Both quantitative and qualitative results emphasized the effectiveness of the PDGD approach in aligning with the natural progression of human drawing. Participants reported increased control, enhanced expressiveness, and increased enjoyment of their collaborative experience with the DrawFlow system. These findings were statistically significant, highlighting the PDGD approach's effectiveness in facilitating a more intuitive, controlled, and satisfying creative experience. However, areas for improvement were noted, particularly in managing the initial user experience to ensure a better understanding of the logic behind the PDGD approach, and enhancing the representation of ambiguity in the system's outputs. Additionally, reducing user cognitive load and balancing human-AI interactions to avoid disrupting the creative flow were identified as crucial considerations. The study contributes valuable insights into the potential of the PDGD approach within TTI generative models. This approach effectively bridges the gap between generative AI capabilities and human creative processes, providing a model that aligns more closely with how humans create visual art. However, it is essential to acknowledge the study's limitations, including a lack of participant diversity, the potential influence of specific scenarios and image types on participant responses, and limited exploration of this approach's adaptability to other generative model types. Future research should build upon these findings by expanding the use of the PDGD approach in diverse creative contexts and investigating its applicability to different types of generative models.;생성형 인공지능의 발전은 시각 예술 창작을 혁신적으로 변화시켰다.

Ewha Authors:
As the connectivity range of smartphones is extended to automobiles, automobiles are evolving beyond the concept of simple means of transport to smartphones on wheels. With this change in the market, there are various services that can respond in various fields such as not only automakers but also smart companies, telecommunication companies, and parts manufacturers. In 2023, the CES also said that as a key theme, it is expected to accelerate the convergence of technologies related to automobiles, and the Seoul Mobility Show in April also emphasized the importance of user experience in connecting the inside and outside of vehicles and revealed that the automobiles in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution are shifting to ‘mobile devices,’ transportation to ‘means of transportation,’ and ownership to ‘sharing.’ These trends suggest that all vehicles will evolve with the integration of mobile devices in the future. With this trend, the development of automobiles has also affected the car keys and has evolved from mechanical keys to the form of digital keys, which are now replaced by smartphones. Today's ‘car keys’ are gradually disappearing from the notion of ownership as a combination of the car and the smartphone. Hereupon, the purpose of this study was to examine the current status of digital keys during the recent rapid growth as an example of the connection between smartphones and automobiles, and to provide guidelines for improvement by identifying problems that arise in the process of using digital keys for sharing vehicles. This study was proceeded as follows. This study examined the connection between smartphones and automobiles, the evolution of car keys, the concept and function of digital keys, the market status of digital keys, the concept and market status of vehicle sharing, and the theoretical background. Next, the process of sharing vehicles was established by a combination of Alison J. Head's interface design evaluation criteria and Peter Morville's UX honeycomb model. Based on the established evaluation criteria, it was conducted with the digital key service of Hyundai Motors and the digital key service of Genesis as the subject of case analysis. The first problem was found through case analysis, and the second problem was found by conducting a 1:1 in-depth interview user evaluation. Both the case analysis and the 1:1 in-depth interview user evaluation were divided into the experienced and the unexperienced and provided the same conditions, and the experiences were different but common problems could be found. These problems were summarized into the affinity diagram and insight was derived.
Vehicle sharing in this study was able to clearly identify the part where sharing can be conducted only in trust-based relationships, and not in untrusted relationships. Also, the relationship and trust affected the composition of the screen and the exposure of information, and it was expected that more detailed classification would improve user satisfaction, but the study wanted only the basic and necessary information to be provided concisely. The frequency of using digital key services to share vehicles is not as frequent, unlike other services. The supporting part of this content may also affect the relationship and trust, and the scope of trust may be limited to the family. As the vehicles are shared based on trust, it could be understood that the subject of sharing is not reluctant to set the period and set up the function and wants to share an environment that can be used for as long and as little hassle as possible. Based on the reconstruction evaluation criteria established for the evaluation of usability in this study, the guidelines for digital key service were designed with 3 main factors of work support, ease of use, and aesthetic composition. Also, in order to visually convey the idea and guidelines of improvement, the study organized the level screen design example of the wireframe and reflected the positive experience felt by the user on every screen. It was proceeded as [Home Screen> Shared Subject Screen> Shared Period Settings Screen> Shared Function Settings Screen> Announcement Screen Before Sharing], and provided a screen before and after the improvement, along with a description of how it could be reflected and designed.
In this study, it is meaningful to find problems that arise in the process of using digital keys for sharing vehicles and to present guidelines by analyzing them from the perspective of design. However, the lack of prior research data and finding users shortly after the launch of the digital key service was also restricted and limited. It is difficult to say that the problems and needs were accurately reflected due to the failure to proceed with the usability evaluation and interview of users who have used the service for a long time. Also, it has a limit that does not consider the usability of the actual implementation because it has not been verified by the production of the prototype for the improvement plan. In addition, there was a limited range of currently available digital keys only with Samsung Android smartphones. In the future, there is a need for follow-up research that verifies the validity of the guidelines by applying them to the iPhone iOS. Therefore, it is hoped to proceed with the prototyping on users with long experience using the digital key and the addition of research seeking complementary points in actual use.2023-01-01T00:00:00Z키오스크 내 UX 라이팅이 사용자 경험에 미치는 영향

Ewha Authors:
More and more restaurants and coffee shops now have kiosk devices to take orders instead of servers due to the social atmosphere where people tend to avoid in-person encounters after the COVID pandemic. Kiosk devices are becoming an essential part of the experience when we place orders as the growing number of franchise stores are equipped with kiosk machines. On- demand kiosks provide us convenience by maintaining quality service through less cost, shorter waiting lines, and various language translations from service providers’ perspectives. However, customers often find it difficult to get used to the automated ordering system and feel anxious about it. In particular, those unaccustomed to electronic gadgets or the challenged tend to have a negative experience using the food shops where kiosks are without convenience in mind.
So far, some studies have focused on services, UI designs, and interaction perspectives regarding kiosk usage, but there have been few studies in UX writing perspectives. Kiosks serve as clerks in shops, and linguistic communications occur actively through kiosks. Thus, this study suggests practical UX writing methods through user experience and kiosk language.
Thus, this study verified seven hypotheses applied to kiosk UX writing as a standard of research after finding out the effects of linguistic communications related to emotions such as voice and tone, conversational style of writing, humor, positive and negative feedback, rapport, and social evidence suggestions that users have toward computers based on experiments introduced in Robert B Cialdini’s Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion, New and Expanded UK and Clifford Nass and Corina Yen’s The Man Who Lied to His Laptop: What We Can Learn about Ourselves from Our Machines on reliability, affinity, satisfaction, and task performance speed to analyze communications between a human and computer. The contents of research are as follows.
First, to testify to the first hypothesis, three franchise coffee shops are selected, such as Twosome Place, EDIYA COFFEE, and Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, domestic big franchise coffee shops. The researcher conducted case studies to verify the hypothesis to check whether the communication elements in the language used in the hypothesis can be criteria for evaluation by assessments conducted by professionals.
Second, through expert evaluation, the researcher conducted in-depth interviews after conducting a kiosk task experiment based on five hypotheses excluding items challenging to measure and hard-to-find differences between brands. Interview transcriptions were repeatedly testified through clustering from affinity diagrams to draw new insights toward linguistic communications in kiosks.
Third, based on research findings and insights found from the research, the researcher suggested kiosk UX writing guidance and designed prototypes to conduct a usability test that keeps the UI screen and flows untouched and modified UX writing only. The researcher compared prototypes with existing screenshots and conducted research with interview participants. Users responded that they did not tell the difference between edited UX writing and the previous one, but that said their experience got more accessible than with the previous screen. Besides, their evaluation scores got higher, resulting in improved service reliability, satisfaction, and affinity, which proved the hypothesis true through interviews.
Research implications suggest that this research improved UX writing regarding linguistic communications rather than layouts or graphic elements in the kiosk user experience. Although this study is limited to kiosks in franchise coffees, further studies on kiosk UX writing can be applied in various fields of the area to improve user experience.2023-01-01T00:00:00Z
