http://dcollection.ewha.ac.kr/jsp/common/DcLoOrgPer.jsp?sItemId=000000012615;Essay tests are one of the various performance assessment methods and are widely used at school for being easy to set objective criteria compared to other methods. In an attempt to investigate the students' reactions and changes in classes where essay tests were emphasized, this study conducted multiple choice tests for two classes out of five second grade classes in a middle school and essay tests for the other three.
The attitudes and appearances of the students during essay tests were observed in order to understand their reactions to the test after they received essay tests-emphasized classes. In addition, their responses on the tests were analyzed. The investigator made up a questionnaire regarding essay tests-emphasized classes to examine the changes to their thinking directly. And One-way ANOVA was administered to the pre- and post-test results to see if there was any change to their inclination and learning attitude to math and abilities on pen and paper tests by giving them essay tests.
An analysis was conducted of the answers on the essay tests during the experimental classes and the scoring by the teacher and peers, which was followed by another analysis of the students' reactions. The results were as follows; the students were willing to work hard getting useful feedback at the same time having difficult time with the burden and rejection of essay tests. The more difficult learning contents became, the more of them gave up, which implies that a proper level of difficulty and feedback has positive impacts on their learning. The students said they experienced positive changes like getting confident in essay tests and active during class. There was no statistically significant difference in their scores of inclination and learning attitude toward math and pen and paper test, which means there was no negative impact.
It's hard to attain great results in a short period time with essay tests that have received emphasis constantly these days. But the students will work harder and concentrate during math classes more if there are chance of ongoing experiences and proper feedback.;\ P!ǀ ,t YP 1, 2YDX | 40%L ¤Д | T¤Д hD tǴ $ .
