identifierдٳٳxX !ĳl lmAn Empirical Exploration into the Nature of Exercise Demotives and the Development of Exercise Demotive Scale2011Y !YtTŐYP YDoctor@0Doctoral Thesis`The purpose of this study was to explore the empirical constructs which demotivates exercise behavior, followed by the development of a scale which can reliably and validly measure exercise demotives.
First, to explore the constructs of exercise demotivators, five open-ended questions were presented to 172 exercisers. With the inductive and qualitative content analysis, 6 factors were emerged and named; physical condition, psychological condition, time, outcome satisfaction, exercise drive, exercise circumstances, thus providing the basis for the development of test items.
Second, the preliminary test data obtained from 342 exercisers were analyzed, using item descriptive analysis. In order to substantiate the construct validity, exploratory factor analysis(EFA) was carried out on 86 items, resulting in 22 items of 5 factors; exercise drive, time application, exercise confidence, affect, exercise enjoyment.
With the 22 items, a reliability analysis was conducted. As a result, the internal consistency(Cronbach ) of the test turned to be .883. With the 22 items from EFA, a confirmatory factor analysis(CFA) was conducted with the data gained from 353 exercisers to test the goodness-of-fit of 5 factor model. The results revealed a satisfactory level of Q, GFI, TLI, CFI, RMSEA.
