The Kernel of Problem-Solving in classroom is to develop and to learn the Strategies that better enable problem solver to solve problems. And so it is significant whether Discrete Mathematics is valuable to learn Problem-Solving as compared to Conventional Mathematics.
This study is to make a comparative study of strategies used in Problem-Solving procedure of Discrete Mathematics and Conventional Mathematics in High School Level.
To achieve this purpose, it is analized the strategies that are used in Problem-Solving procedure in High School level and selected the topics and problems of Discrete Mathematics accessible ta in High School Curriculum.
The Results of this study are the followings.
1. There are differences between Discrete Mathematics and Conventional.
Mathematics for the strategies used in Problem- Solving procedure.
2. Discrete Mathematics needs more various Strategies than that of Conventional Mathematics in solving problems.
3. Conventional Mathematics contains mainly the strategies of S0(simple translation for mathematical knowledge or formal skill), S3(draw figure or graph), and S10(modify problem). On the other hand, Discrete Mathematics has mainly the strategies of S1(Mathematical modeling), S7(Solve Problem backware) and S8(Simplication by Specialization).
4. Discrete Mathematics has more problems connected with actual life than that of Conventional Mathematics.
5. Discrete Mathematics has more problems to use multiple strategies.
As the above results, following suggestions could be made.
1. It is necessary to introduce Discrete Mathematics in High School Curriculum for students to learn various Strategies for Problem-Solving.
2. Discrete Mathematics is valuable to learn Mathematical Modeling.
3. It is necessary to develop problems that use several strategies in a problem.
4. It is necessary for teachers to be furnished information for Discrete Mathematics and Problem-Solving and to be re-educated.~http://dspace.ewha.ac.kr/handle/2015.oak/197867;
