Computer education started from 1970's and CAI developed as a new study of computer education in the school.
In recent years, more emphasis has been given to CAI than Computer Literacy. But, it is still in an early stage in Korea.
Thus, varied programming languages are needed in the computer education. It is intended to apply a geometry learning of Logo programming language in the study.
The purpose of the study was to investigate a learning effect of geometry with two groups: Experimental group (Logo programming) and Control group (Conventional program).
The following questions are investigated:
1. Are there any learning effects of experimental group in geometry?
2. Are there any learning effects in plane geometry and solid geometry?
3. Are there any learning effects of geometry in detail?
The subjects of the study were 4th grade of elementary school. Experimental group was 49 persons and Control group was 50 persons.
The data was analyzed by Analysis of covariance with the SAS computer program package.
The findings of this study are as follows:
1. There were not efficient geometry learning in experimental group.
2. Geometry is divided two, the effect of plane geometry proved and the effect of solid geometry didn't prove
3. In the part of geometry, the effects of geometry were (Angle) part and (Triangle) part.
Logo programming makes much use of mathematics, and the Turtle provides a child with instant feedback about the effect of his commands, In these curcumstances, it i<zs to be expected that he will learn a great deal of informal mathematics. In this study, especially effect of plane geometry learning was proved.
The measurement of angles is fundamentally different from the measurement of lengths: there are no lengths which are intrinsically different from all other lengths, whereas a complete turn intrinsically different from other turns, because it learns the Turtle looking as if it had never moved.
This type of experience of angle measurement and of regular shapes can form a foundation for more formal geometry at a later stage.~http://dspace.ewha.ac.kr/handle/2015.oak/196812;
