Furthermore it ventured to prove the fact that this program(YQMT) could be a practical solution to help students who have difficulties in school due to failure in academic achievement.
The subjects were 32 K-middle school(located in Dong-jak gu in Seoul) girls who were all in sophomore years. After the pretest they were randomly divided into experimental group(15 subjects) and control group(17subjects). For experimental group, YQMT program was administered 8sessions and each session lasted two hours resulting in 16 hours. For control group, subjects watched video tapes chosen by the participants while YQMT program was administered in experimental group.
Pretest-Posttest design was used for both groups to measure the effectiveness of the YQMT program. Same instruments were administered before and after the program. The instruments used in this study were the judgement scale of learned helplessness, developed by Sin(1990), modified and complemented by Kim & Chu(1999), and the academic self-efficacy scale, developed and proved its validity by Kim & Park(1999).
For statistical comparison of the effectiveness of the YQMT program, SPSS 10.0 version for Windows was used to analyze the data. The results were as follows:
First, statistically significant decrease of learned helplessness was found in experimental group, which YQMT program(a group counseling program using Reality Therapy) was administered.
Second, statistically significant increase of academic self-efficacy was found in experimental group, which YQMT program(a group counseling program using Reality Therapy) was administered.
The results of this research support the hypothesis that the experimental group using YQMT program is effective to decrease learned helplessness and increase the level of academic self-efficacy.
The results prove that group counseling program using Reality Therapy(YQMT) statistically decreased the scores of learned helplessness and increased the level of academic self-efficacy. Therefore it would be a practical solution to utilize YQMT program for the students who have difficulties in school life due to academic failure.~http://dspace.ewha.ac.kr/handle/2015.oak/190524;
