Y YP!YtTŐYP YMasterMaster's ThesisThough the calculations are admitted that there are several advantages such as relieving the time and mental burden which go with calculations and being able to concentrate on mathematics itself. Nonetheless it is being raised several objects that there will be lowering of calculation ability and breaking down mathematics curriculum of elementary school's lower grades. It is considered that it's worth in an educational aspects to think over the fact that even Middle school is adhering to a traditional teaching method that doesn't admit using of calculator because of the worrying breaking down four operations ability and a concept of algorithm.
Griffith(1988) is saying that calculation by inserting Trigonometry Table and Logarithm Table will disappear owing to the influence of technology. In the case of a numeration table, the importance of it has been weakened because of calculators. And curriculums of after the 6th has been changed into the ways that encourage using calculators. But so much time on using a numeration table is being spended in class.
Though it bring advantage of using calculators in the lesson of a numeration table which requires spending so much time on four operations, there are lacking studies of using calculators. Therefore studies are thought about using calculators in class is required in that it can provide students with various education.
Following studies were practiced to suggest substituting calculators for a numeration table in the lesson of it.
1. What are the flow of transition and features of curriculums from the 1st to the 7th curriculum? What are the changes in the way of presenting a numeration table and in the contents of the text which is revised?
2. How's a numeration table presented in the 7th curriculum and what's the change that it can be suggested in the text and teaching method of the 7th curriculum compared with curricula of other nations?
3. Is there any change in the general mathematics learning and the interests of using calculators when it is substituted calculators for a numeration table. And is there any changes in the achievement?
(Logarithm Table was studied of a first grade of high school.)
The curriculum of our nation is changing into the way that uses equipments as the importance of using them is realized. Futhermore the importance of a numeration table has been weakened and the using of calculators is encouraged in a numeration table lesson. In reality, the text isn't changed in these ways. There should be changes that reflect these flows in the text of the 7th curriculum.
97 students of H girls' high school which is located in Seoul by dividing them into 46 students of treatment group and 42 students of control group were experimented. We experimented on the teaching way of using calculators with treatment group and the traditional teaching way which is centered on a numeration table with control group.
The transition was checked by doing interests and attitudes test both before and after the study. Mathematics questions were made of general mathematics learning attitudes based on the studies of the KEDI(1992), Sin, Seong-Kun(1992) and Kang, Seung-Ho(1998) and questions of mathematics learning attitudes which is related with the using calculator based on the study of Cho, seong-Min(1999). The midterm test for pretest and subjective question of final test which set limits to log for posttest was substituted .
According to the results of the study, there were no significant difference between t<wo groups in general mathematics interest and attitude test. But there were significant difference in the test which utilized calculators when the with of significant levels was broadened. Futhermore, the study shows that the using of calculators has a positive influence on the learning of mathematic in the fact that treatment group had a high achievement than control group.
The goal of secondary school mathematics isn't the improving of calculation ability. Especially, the goal of a numeration table lesson isn't the improving calculation ability through the repetitive practice of operation. Therefore, it's much better to change the teaching method into the way that uses calculators in a numeration table lesson to devote on the original goal of a numeration table lesson.;Ĭ0X @ Ĭ 0t , D \ x 8 tհtǘ P Ƭ tt X YX Yյ T ι@ D ``` ij] XՔ X D xXtij Ĭ0X <\ x\ Ĭ% X@ YP YDX P!
